Well we knew the Movement material by now, along with the vaguely-familiar bleepy sequencer of EGG and the very JD-esque Procession, but nothing had prepared me for the shapeless rambling repetitive opener that seemed to go on for ages and seemed to have set the band back a bit. Little did we know what a gargantuan this would become in time. New Order in 1981 was a pretty bleak proposition, songs sounding somehow incomplete amid a nervous and faltering stage presence, and the overall feeling was of an unease that you couldn't put your finger on.
