5 11 means 5 Joy Division Songs, 11 New Order songs.
Comments by Allen Jarvis:
"The film was put together by an independent film director called Miles Prowse, and Jonathan became involved at Andy Robinson's behest - sort of as a link to the fans. Jonathan asked me and Alex just prior to Move if we'd get involved, and the thing snowballed a bit on the day with us dragging a few other friends along. Bit unnerving to find a camera crew waiting for us at Dukes 92 when we finally made it up to Manchester though.
Seems a lot of it ended up on the cutting room floor - but I guess a lot of the conversations were quite esoteric. Mine and Jonathan's conversation veered from football violence, the casual scene, the Mondays, ACR, gigs we were at in the 80's, stuff like that. A bit TOO New Order'ish and not for the casual observor. So what you get is very watered down. My Mrs ends up saying more than me, but that's probably as much as she actually said on the day!
John & Christine are the first couple you see - Mike, I thought you might recognise John as he's close friends with Alex and has even seen the band more times than Alex! Perhaps you've met? Christine delivered the best line of the day saying she didn't really like the band, didn't really like any songs, and only did it cos of the social. So they cut her interview short to speak to John with Alex instead. Then there's me and Paula (I've got an AJ baseball cap on - Armani Jeans but I obviously wear it cos of the initials!). Then there's Bunny, the American who talks about the Manc Apollo gig. Her hubby Ian, an Englishman, also gets his shoulder in shot - but that's as close as he gets. I actually first met those two in Dry just before the Apollo gig after George Saunders arranged a meet through this mailing list. And we've been friends ever since. Sadly, as you can see Alex isn't on the DVD - despite being a living leged in New Order circles. However, he does get his name on Retro. Few other people were also interviewed - Johnny G from NOOL who's - as far as I know - done the most gigs worldwide on the Get Ready tour. One more than me, but he also had a mate at the Beeb who got him into Later. He was interviewed with Liv from NOOL, and there were two mates of mine from Pompey, who also ended up on the cutting room floor.
However, Miles hopes this is just the beginning of his association with the band, and plans a much larger project involving fans and suchlike, talking about gigs and songs, and suchlike.
Look closely and you can also make out Jonathan Scott's reflection in Barney's sunglasses!!!" |
