Anton Corbijn talks about "Control"

"Control" — rock photographer/director Anton Corbijn's long-awaited paean to departed Joy Division singer Ian Curtis — has moved at a glacial development pace for the last two years, but the film finally looks like it's beginning to take shape. Corbijn flatly dismissed rumors that Jude Law would play the deceased singer ("Laughable," Corbijn said. "I read that in the tabloids and it's nonsense") but said Samantha Morton is attached to play Curtis' wife, Deborah. It's not the first time Corbijn has worked with Morton; the director cast her as the mermaid in U2's "Electrical Storm" video in 2002. While he wouldn't reveal who has been cast as Ian Curtis, the first-time feature-length director says he hopes to start shooting the film in early 2006. "I originally moved to England [from Holland] for this band. The subject matter is very close to my heart," he said. "There's no agenda on my end, apart from making this a fantastic movie. I'm not trying to become a big film director, I just want to make this one movie." ...
